Next school year, the U.S. Department of Education will make more than $156 Billion in financial aid available for postsecondary education throughout the nation. College Goal Sunday (CGS) makes applying for financial aid easier by providing students and their parents with free help filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the first step in applying for federal financial aid and state programs.
The Missouri Association of Student Financial Aid Personnel and the Missouri Department of higher Education are partnering closely to bring an expanded CGS program, called FAFSA Frenzy, to Missouri for 2011. The FAFSA Frenzy in this region will be held at Pike-Lincoln Technical Center in Eolia on Sunday, February 20. (An inclement weather back-up date is Feb. 27.) Financial aid professionals will be on hand to assist area students and parents from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This FAFSA Frenzy is open to all students who may attend any college, university or career-technical school this coming fall, not just Pike-Lincoln Technical Center.
Complimentary child care will be provided at Pike-Lincoln Technical Center for attendees during those hours. For a map and directions to Pike-Lincoln, go towww.pltc.k12.mo.us/maps. For further information, call 573-485-2900, ext. 224 or 225.
Four $1,000 scholarships will be given to students attending the event statewide. Winners will receive their scholarships upon receipt of enrollment verification for the 2011 fall semester at a Missouri postsecondary institution.
Families who bring their completed 2010 income tax returns to a FAFSA Frenzy event will be able to complete the 2011-12 FAFSA on site. Families who have not completed their tax returns will still learn valuable information to help them finish the FAFSA at home.
2011 FAFSA Frenzy events will mark the eighth year that Missouri has participated in CGS. In the past seven years, CGS/FAFSA Frenzy has helped more than 5,000 Missouri students obtain financial aid.
