On the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of Pike-Lincoln
Technical Center's Open House, Debbi Hess was honored as one of
the Center's Success Stories. Debbi's hard work and dedication
have taken her far. Debbi was in attendance with her three sons
who said they were very proud of their mother for keeping a positive
outlook and never giving up. Debbi says her boys also gave her
strength. "There were times I wanted to give up and could
have," said Debbi.
She chose to attend Pike-Lincoln Technical Center
in February of 1991. She studied Office Systems Technology and earned
all five certificates available in the program. Her teacher, Janice
Slominsky, became her friend and began helping her get through this
hard period of her life.
"I give her a lot of credit as I do the school.
They gave me the ground work to believe in myself," said Debbi,
who now works as a human resource analyst in St. Charles.
Debbi was living in Bowling Green at the time she
attended the school. She came back, on this occasion, to accept
the very first alumnus award the school has ever given.
"She was very dedicated and very motivated,"
said Mrs. Slominsky.
The award ceremony was part of the 30th anniversary
celebration of the school. An open house was held and the public
was invited to attend and tour the facility.
Mike Martin was chosen as the 2005 Alumnus of the
Year. Mike was a student in the Pike-Lincoln Technical Center Building
Trades program in 1974 with instructor Bill Johnson. Mike has worked
in the construction industry for over 30 years and currently serves
as the General Manager of the Cannon Builders Construction Division.
Mike recently initiated the Troy Construction Industry Advisory
Committee and serves as its co-chair. This committee supports a
new Building Trades class that is administered jointly by Pike-Lincoln
Technical Center and Troy Buchanan High School. Mike continues to
serve as an active member of the Pike-Lincoln Technical Center Building
Trades Advisory Committee.
